Grapple Hub Glory at NAGA Tournament
$

On Saturday 6th September 2025, five dedicated athletes from The Grapple Hub (TGH) represented East London at the North American Grappling Association (NAGA) Tournament held at Harrow Leisure Centre. This prestigious event is one of the largest grappling competitions on the UK calendar, bringing together hundreds of martial artists ranging from first-time competitors to experienced black belts.

For our team, this was more than just a tournament — it was an opportunity to test themselves on one of the biggest stages, showcase the values of discipline and resilience instilled at The Grapple Hub and proudly represent our local community in Whitechapel.

Medals, Matches and Memorable Moments

The Grapple Hub squad delivered exceptional performances, demonstrating not only their technical ability but also their courage and determination under pressure:

  • Ismail (Blue Belt, under 80kg)
The star of the day, Ismail was unstoppable. Submitting every opponent with clinical precision, he walked away with double gold in both the Gi and No-Gi categories. His composure and dominance throughout the competition showed how far he has come since joining The Grapple Hub.

  • Azharul (Purple Belt, under 80kg)
Azharul displayed grit and composure, earning double silver. His matches highlighted the resilience and tactical awareness that have become his trademark, pushing through tough rounds against high-level opponents.

  • Coach Abdul Hannan (Expert Division, under 65kg)
Known affectionately as Coach H, Abdul stepped onto the mats against elite-level competition, including seasoned black belts. His performances inspired the entire team, as he fought valiantly and earned silver after two demanding matches. His courage and leadership set the tone for the day.

  • Coach Abu Ubaidah (Coach Esa, Brown Belt, under 85kg)
Coach Esa once again demonstrated why he is such a vital figure in the Grapple Hub family. Competing in a tough bracket, he battled fiercely and came away with silver. More importantly, he acted as a mentor throughout the day, guiding and supporting younger teammates.

  • Jifar (Blue Belt, under 99kg)
Taking on one of the heaviest and most competitive divisions, Jifar showed bravery and determination. While the medals escaped him this time, he gained invaluable experience that will strengthen him for future tournaments.

Beyond the Medals

While the results are something to celebrate, the true achievement lies in the journey. Each of these athletes is a product of The Grapple Hub, a community project proudly supported by Muslim Charity.

Based in Whitechapel, East London, The Grapple Hub provides:

  • A safe space where young people can train and belong
  • Positive role models in the form of experienced coaches and mentors
  • Life-changing opportunities to build confidence, discipline and resilience
  • Protection from negative influences, keeping youth away from crime and antisocial behaviour

For many participants, stepping onto the mats is about more than sport — it’s about personal growth, community pride and proving that with the right support, they can achieve greatness.

Why Muslim Charity Supports the Grapple Hub

At Muslim Charity, our mission is not just about providing aid abroad. It is also about investing in local communities here in the UK. Whitechapel and wider Tower Hamlets face some of the highest rates of poverty, youth unemployment and crime in London. The Grapple Hub is part of the solution — offering young people a constructive path, building their confidence and giving them a supportive community that helps them thrive.

Every medal won at NAGA is a reflection of your donations at work. It shows the transformation possible when we give young people purpose and opportunity. These athletes are not just sportspeople; they are role models for their peers, showing that dedication and discipline lead to success.

Looking Ahead

The energy and lessons from this tournament will carry The Grapple Hub team forward into future competitions. More importantly, it has given every participant renewed motivation and inspired younger members back at the gym.

Our vision is for The Grapple Hub to grow into a hub of excellence for the community — not only producing champions on the mats, but also raising confident, disciplined young men and women who will contribute positively to society.

A Call to Action

The story of The Grapple Hub is only possible because of your support. Every training session, every competition entry, every medal — they all stem from the generosity of people who believe in giving young people a chance.

? With your continued support, we can expand The Grapple Hub, reach more young people in East London and give them the same opportunities to succeed both on and off the mats.
