In Nigeria, around 1.6 million people are thought to be living in modern slavery. Uganda carries an estimated 250,000 people, and in Tanzania the figure is over 300,000. Kenya also faces a serious challenge, with almost 270,000 men, women and children believed to be trapped. In Pakistan, bonded labour in agriculture, brick making and other industries remains widespread, with estimates placing more than 3 million people in modern slavery.
Behind each of these numbers is a human story. Children removed from school and forced into harsh, dangerous work. Women and girls deceived with promises of jobs or marriage, only to be exploited and abused. Survivors carrying scars that are physical, mental and emotional, from experiences that no one should ever face. Without urgent action, these hidden lives remain trapped in despair, desperation and danger.
