Football Philanthropy Triumph: TEAMMC, OVFC & BASA Masters

Another great festival of veterans football, the TEAMMC, OVFC & BASA Masters Over-35s 7-aside Football Tournament 2023, took place on 9th July 2023 at the Accrington and Rossendale College. Teams and players were from Oldham, Rochdale, Bury, Preston, Bradford, Leeds, Hyde, Rossendale, Haslingdon, Chester, Blackburn, Liverpool and London. Again the football on the pitch was of superb quality for players aged 35 – 53! but that’s no surprise as these were some of the best footballers within the small sided tournament circuit throughout the UK, but the brotherhood and unity off the pitch was even more pleasing to see.

Participants raised a great amount for charity, almost £3,000, all money made from the tournament is going towards Muslim Charity’s Children of the World campaign, rescuing children from the streets and providing shelter and education to vulnerable children around the world.

Over the past few years the Masters tournament has been supporting Muslim Charity’s children of the world campaign, specifically street children in Pakistan and Bangladesh

Muslim Charity’s work for street children continues in Dhaka, Daulathia, Lahore, Peshawar, Karachi and has now extended to Mwanza in Tanzania. Children on the streets are abused verbally, physically and sexually and involved in trafficking. Muslim Charity rescues vulnerable street children, reunites them with their family or where this is not possible our partners refers them to permanent homes and also support street children with drug addictions. As for the Masters competition itself, there were 15 teams with very competitive and entertaining matches in both groups with 8 teams going through.

In the quarter finals Mohammedan (London) beat Shoreditch in an all London derby 3-0. Elite (Oldham) beat Liverpool FC on penalties after a 1-1 draw. NFA (Leeds) beat Liverpool MBA on penalties after 0-0 draw. Coppice beat Rochdale FC 2-1.

In the semi final Elite Allstars beat Mohammedan FC 2-0, and Coppice beat NFA 1-0.

The final was a very competitive one with the 2 teams deservedly being in the showpiece final. It was an Oldham derby. Coppice beat Elite to be crowned TEAMMC, OVFC & BASA Masters 2023 Champions.

A big huge thank you to all the teams, the referees, the volunteers, the BBQ team, the sponsors and the team of organisers Moheen, Jewel, Dewan and Abdul Basit.

• Champions: Coppice (Oldham)
• Runners up: Elite Allstars (Oldham)
• Player of the Tournament: Forhad (Elite Allstars)
• Man of the Match in Final: Umer (Coppice)
