Potential Turning Point for Pakistan – Muslim Charity

A conference being held in London this week has the potential of being the start of a turning point for the future of Pakistan says Dr Hany El-Banna, chairman of the Muslim Charities Forum.

The conference Looking Beyond 2015: Pakistan: Post Millennium Development Goals will bring together speakers and delegates from government, the development sector and the Pakistani diaspora in the UK to discuss how all parties can contribute to a positive future.

“Pakistan has untapped potential which can be realised through the actions of the international community helping the country, especially those related to Pakistan through family ties living abroad. The Pakistani diaspora have an innate insight into the country which can benefit governments and aid agencies in building a prosperous Pakistan”, says Dr. Hany El-Banna.

Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) CEO, Qazi Azmat Isa, believes that bringing together so many diverse voices with different expertise will raise the level of debate and highlight the tough issues that need to be discussed surrounding Pakistan.

“I believe that this conference is an ideal platform where so many different actors can play a role in the future of Pakistan. It can be the start of a turning point where Pakistanis and their international neighbours can create a plan of action for a prosperous future.”

Looking Beyond 2015: Pakistan: Post Millennium Development Goals will be held at Church House, Westminster, London and will have Baroness Sayeda Warsi as keynote speaker, as well as Saleh Saeed from the Disasters Emergency Committee and Simon Danczuk MP, Vice Chair of All Parties Parliamentary Group on Pakistan taking part in panel discussions.
